与护士研究员类似，在澳新职业大典中中，护士教育者需要申请人拥有最低本科学历，以及最低5年的专业工作经验。而在新西兰的护士协会中，护士教育者除了职业经验，还需要在学术和临床上有进一步的深造，完成研究生、硕士乃至博士学历，并主要从事护士专业的教学工作。因此，从该职位的性质来说，极少数会有通过留学以此职位实现移民的申请人——在完成注册护士课程后即可就业移民了，无需更高的职位；此外，大多数此类高级别的临床医学相关类课程为简兼职就读或远程教学，并不适合国际学生用以申请学生签证。
